Restoring Permission to use Assistive Access

If you use FastScripts to run scripts that in turn control other processes with “System Events”, you may run into a permissions issue where the system refuses to run the script because “FastScripts Script Runner is not allowed assistive access.”

Normally this would occur if you were prompted to grant permission to FastScripts but denied it. But in some instances the system becomes confused about the permission and insists that the action is not authorized even though it appears to be enabled.

If you run into this, perform this sequence of steps to correct the problem:

  1. Open System Preferences, and select the Security & Privacy section.
  2. Within that section, select Privacy and then Accessibility.
  3. Remove FastScripts from the list of authorized apps.
  4. Restart your Mac.
  5. Add FastScripts back to the list of authorized apps.
